Nokia 9000 Communicator

Requirements

A Nokia 9000 Communicator connection to the Internet is established via a GSM data call. Therefore this requires that the data service is activated on your SIM card.

Communicator Configuration

To start the Internet application on your Communicator press the Internet button, you should see a screen that looks like this:

Configuring WWW Access

Highlight WWW and press Settings

  • Modem initialization Fixed 9600 b/s
  • Data call barring
  • Internet access

Close

Modem initialization should be fixed 9600 b/s.
Highlight Internet Access and press Change

Press Edit

Define Internet Access Point 
  • Provider Name :
  • Phone Number :
  • User Name :
  • Prompt Password :
  • Password :
  • Advance Setting :

  • Enter your provider name: MyISP
  • Phone Number: 5556969
  • User Name: username
  • Prompt Password : Change to yes if set to no (for security reasons)
  • Highlight Advanced Setting and press Change. You should see a screen like this:

  • Default gateway :
  • Network mask :
  • Primary Name Server :
  • Secondary Name Server :

Fill in the primary and secondary name servers with your ISP's DNS servers (e.g.):

  • 123.213.123.213
  • 123.213.123.214

Press Close 4 times to get back to the Internet screen.

Configuring Email

Highlight Mail and press Select

You should see a screen that looks like this:

Highlight Remote Mail Box

Your screen will show "Connect" instead of open.

Press Settings

You should see a screen that looks like this.

You see internet access as MyISP as you have already configured the internet access in the WWW settings.

Make sure your Remote mail box protocol is POP3. If it is IMAP4 highlight the Remote Mail Box protocol and press change. It will change to POP3.

Highlight the Remote Mail box settings and press Change

You will see the following screen.

  • Enter your username
  • Enter your password
  • Own email address : mymailaddres@myisp.com
  • Receiving Host : pop.myisp.com
  • Sending Host : smtp.myisp.com
  • Press Closethree times.

Getting Connected

You have now configured WWW access and email. You may proceed with establishing the connection as follows.

On Your Internet Screen:

Highlight WWW and press Select.

You will see a screen of Hot list.

Highlight the Nokia home page and press fetch. You will be prompted for the password. Enter your password and press OK.

The Communicator will try to establish the network connection via MyISP (the net access name you chose).

Upon successful connection you should see the web page of Nokia home page.

To check your mail

Highlight Mail press Select

Highlight Remote Mail Box

Press Connect

The Communicator will try to establish the connection to the Remote Mail box with MyISP.
