"WNetGetUser" message when launching IE

WNetGetUser is a system function call to get the name of a computer on a network. This error can occur for one of two reasons:

The computer name is greater than eight characters.
Check the Computer Name is 8 characters or less and has a valid entry:
Go to Control Panel | Networks, click the Identification tab.

Client for Microsoft Networks is damaged.
You'll need to reinstall Client for Microsoft Networks -
Go to Control Panel | Networks, and remove Client for Microsoft Networks.
Click Remove, and then OK.
After rebooting, return to Control Panel | Networks, and click Add | Client | Add. Select Microsoft | Client for Microsoft Networks. Click all the OKs and ensure you have a valid Computer Name and Workgroup entry in the Identification tab.
