If you get someone with Outlook 97 getting "Illegal Operation" messages when checking for new mail, or more confusingly - getting "Unable to log on to the mailbox" messages when you are certain that they have typed their username\password correctly
Check the content of their mailbox on the POP server - there may be a "System-Undeliverable" message in there with a blank return-path. If there is, this is probably the cause of the problem.
Outlook does not like certain types of bounced mail. Delete the offending message and it will probably fix the problem.
